Are you ready to ace that upcoming interview and land your dream job?  Here are some game-changing tips to help you prepare like a pro:

Research, research, research...

Knowledge is power! Read up on the company’s background, values and recent projects. Understand their industry, competitors and any relevant news. This will not only showcase your genuine interest but also help you tailor your responses in line with their goals. Also, get on LinkedIn and research what you can about the interviewers and their backgrounds – it will help them feel familiar on the day and ease your nerves!

Prepare...

Get familiar with the Job Description and anything else you know about the role and the team, so you can prepare specific examples of when and how you have demonstrated relevant skills and experiences. Show them you’re the perfect fit! Also know your CV in detail so you can answer questions about previous companies and roles without referring to it. Be prepared to talk about how your own values align to the company’s, and if numbers/sales are important in the role, remind yourself of the previous figures/numbers you’ve delivered as it’s likely your interviewer will ask!

Be On Time...

Plan your route and aim to arrive at least 10 minutes early for the interview. This will give you valuable time to start the meeting calmly and with confidence.

Think about your Body Language...

Maintaining eye contact, offering a firm handshake, and siting up straight during the interview are so powerful. Show the interviewer you are interested and there for the right reasons.

Nail the STAR Technique...

Situation Task, Action, Result – use this formula when answering behavioural questions.

Here’s what we mean in a nutshell… “In my previous role as project manager, I led a team of 4 to implement a new HR system /// Quite early on there was tension between two of my team members over our project’s approach /// I addressed this by facilitating separate meetings to understand their perspectives, then brought them together for a group discussion to find a compromise /// Both parties felt heard, it enabled improved collaboration, improved the team dynamics, and the HR system was implemented on time…”

Following this structure in your responses will demonstrate logical thinking and gives a well-rounded answer.

Prepare for Technical / Skill-based Questions...

If the role requires specific technical skills, review and refresh your knowledge in those areas. If you are topping up your knowledge in your spare time with an online refresher course or have a relevant side-hussle which uses those technical skills, let them know.

Stay Updated on Trends...

Impress your interviewers by sharing your knowledge of current trends and innovations in your field or industry. This shows that you are forward-thinking and adaptable, and they’ll feel like they can learn a thing or two from you!

Practice Interview...

Practice makes perfect! Conduct mock interviews with a friend or mentor. This helps you refine your responses, improve your delivery, and gain confidence. Anticipate questions about your strengths, weaknesses, achievements, challenges, and why you’re a good fit for the role. Ask your friend to give you some constructive feedback to reflect on.

Prepare Smart Questions...

Show your genuine interest by asking insightful questions about the company culture, team dynamics, or future projects. It’s not only about them interviewing you; it’s also about you finding out if it’s the right fit. But be sure to avoid asking questions that can be easily answered through basic research.

Look the Business and Feel the Business...

Dress professionally and look the part. First impressions are formed within seconds so choose professional attire that aligns with the company culture and the position you’re applying for.

Even if the company is super casual, it’s always better to be over-dressed than under-dressed when it comes to an interview.

Follow Up After the Interview...

Send a thank-you email after the interview expressing your gratitude and reiterating your interest in the position.

There is a lot to think about but don’t be too hard on yourself. Remember to be yourself during the interview and showcase your authentic self. Confidence, preparation, and a positive attitude can go a long way in making a good impression.

If it doesn’t go the way you hope, think about what you have learned from the experience and how you might approach and prepare differently next time. Practice makes perfect 😊 and the Four Talent team are here to support you.

...Good luck!
